Over the summer we had the chance to gather some ideas together before returning for our final year. I brainstormed a range of different ideas over the summer break and got a good understanding of what I did and didn't want to do for my FMP.

I knew that with my strengths primarily being the more creative side of Game Design that I would be doing a lot of 3D modelling, sculpting and texturing for my FMP. Having experimented more with stylised and cartoonish characters and environments I wanted to mix things up and go for a photo-realistic environment. However I didn't want my FMP to be just an environment as I wanted to challenge myself and really show off all my skills so that this could be used as one of my main projects for my portfolio. So I decided I was going to make it an interactive environment where you will be able to find items and interact with doors etc. I didn't just want it to be a walk through of an environment though, so I also decided I was going to design it for VR and also include patrolling enemies giving the player some sort of challenge whilst going through the level.

My first idea involved having a scientist who claimed to work at a government funded alien technology laboratory base go missing without a trace. The story would then involve a group of kids trying to find clues about his disappearance with the leader of the group being the scientists nephew. The military base was heavily influenced on Area 51 and the scientist was partly based on Bob Lazar. Other people from the area begin to go missing and the group of kids discover their first clue being a blueprint with input codes, droid prototypes and a map to a secret location in the woods. They visit the woods and discover a small hidden away cave, upon entering the cave they hear a strange beeping noise and find a wrist device similar to a watch but unlike anything they've anything seen before as one of the kids picks it up theirs a bright flash and they are teleported inside a futuristic looking lab with lots of weapons around them. The leader of the kids then realises his uncle wasn't lying about working on alien technology.

Inside the armoury where they have been teleported will be where the kids finds a cloaking device and a freezing device. The lab will have droids patrolling around the area which the player will have to navigate around them or use the devices or interactions to shut them down.

There will be 2 variants of the droid. A lab droid which purpose is to replace human scientists and armoured droids which will pack a punch and include a wide range of weapons and be immune to all devices.

The first droid will be vulnerable to the freezing device and will immediately shut down. The armoured droid will be immune so this is where the player will need to use the cloaking device for the first time to get past the armoured droid. The player will then discover a switch that requires a code this is where the player will use the input code on the blueprint they have. It'll will cut to a different camera where you will see a main door unlock and the armoured droid will shut down guarding the door.

Doors will have a red light above them if they are locked or a green light above them if they are unlocked. Once the player reaches the control base they will see the pit in front of them through the glass panel. Players will work there way to the pit where they will discover more devices which will help them through the level and the pit will showcase the truth of whats really going on within the base. The pit will be an open environment with lots of alien plant life overrunning the underground base.
